Patricia Ann "Pat" Riegler's Obituary
Patricia Ann “Pat” Riegler, aged 84, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 7, 2024, at Trinity Health Hospital Muskegon. She was born September 3, 1939, to James and Hazel (Haight) McFarren, in Muskegon, Michigan. She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1957 and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Education. She taught elementary school for 16 years, was a freight truck driver, and an office manager. When her kids were in Little League, she was the president of the Egleston league. When they were in Scouts, she became a den mother, and subsequently got involved in the local scouting organization leadership. When they wanted to do an over-the-top Halloween trick-or-treating event, she not only was ok with it, but she grabbed some fabric scraps and made herself a witch’s costume so she could participate. Neighborhood kids enjoyed it for several years.
Pat was a prolific knitter and crocheter. She would make sweaters, slippers, scarves, gloves, mittens, hats, Christmas ornaments and Afghans, to name a few. There probably isn’t a family member that doesn’t have something she made. She was also happy to teach anybody who wanted to learn.
Pat is survived by her sons, Walter (Brenda) Riegler, Tracy (Donna) Riegler, and Gregory Riegler; daughter-in-law Wendy Riegler; brothers Barney (Susie) McFarren, and Brian (Vickie) McFarren; grandchildren, Ranota Banks, Marc Riegler, Emily Riegler, Erica Curnick, William Riegler, Travis Riegler, Miranda Riegler, Catherine Morales-Janetzke, Desiree Bouchard, and Chelsea DeRuiter; and great-grandchildren Dusty Rose, Pacian, Anastasia, Jack, Cash, Ashur, and William III. There are a number of other people who aren't descended from her who called her Gramma Pat, as well. She was preceded in death by son, William; great-grandchildren Darby and Colton; and brother, Larry McFarren.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will take place Monday, June 17, 2024, at 11 AM at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services (737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442) and VISITATION with the family 1 hour prior to the service. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to WGVU Public Media.
