Patrick W. Korndorfer's Obituary
Patrick William Korndorfer, age 34, beloved son of Bob and Mary Beth (Hume) Korndorfer, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. It was the end of a beautiful but tortured life, Patrick suffered from the disease of addiction. No matter how hard we tried, we could not save him. Patrick was born on a glorious Easter morning, April 19, 1987. He was the first boy born in the Hume family in 37 years. From the beginning he was a kind and gentle soul who loved books, animals, music, movies, and designer fashion. He loved pickles and penguins. He loved the great outdoors and could out-swim and out-ski anybody. He never went anywhere without looking like a million bucks. Patrick graduated from North Muskegon High School in 2005. He was a gifted and talented writer who won all of the writing awards. He was a member of the Alpine Club, French Club, and the National Honor Society. He tooled around town in his yellow Jeep. He was so full of promise. Patrick had a quick wit and infectious laugh and was a joy to be around. The tragedy of his life was that he could not see himself as others saw him. We are grateful he is now free of the burdens that he carried and has found the peace that eluded him here on Earth. Patrick leaves behind a family who loved him dearly. Besides his parents he leaves his sister, Katie and brother, Max, who were his biggest champions and best friends; cherished aunts, Nancy (Tim) Susterich, Sally Geerlings, Susan (Steve) Schuitema, Patti (Jack) Peltier; his adored cousin, Erika, and much-loved friend, Kathy Speese; aunts and uncles, Sandi (Emil) Danz, Rick Korndorfer, Paula Korndorfer, Paul Korndorfer, David (Laura) Korndorfer, and all the wonderful cousins on both sides. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Phyllis Hume and Paul and Bunny Korndorfer. We are grateful to God for lending Patrick to us, even through the hard days. But for every bad day there was a good day, a great day, especially the summers spent at Lake Lelanau and the times we were all together in Seattle. We know that we will all be reunited again someday in a place where there is no pain, no heartache, no tears, no addiction. Addiction steals the true person that you know and love and leaves an imposter in his place. It is cruel and it is unforgiving. If love was enough, there would be no more of it. A VISITATION with Patrick’s family will take place on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at The Lee Chapel of The Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will take place on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you do a random act of kindness for someone. Be somebody’s ray of light. Patrick would like that. Donations in Patrick’s name can be made to either The Noah Project or Pound Buddies. Feel free to sign the family’s online guestbook and share a memory at www.sytsemafh.com.
