Patrick Owen Shields' Obituary
Patrick Owen Shields, age 92, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022. He was born June 5, 1929 in Muskegon to William J. and Dorothy V. (Suchon) Shields and lived in the area most of his life. On October 11, 1952, he married Diane Mae McCarl in Muskegon and she survives him. Pat worked at Brunswick Corp and Sealed Power Corp before he spent many years in management at several area restaurants. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Pat volunteered for the MCC Fish Fries, the Muskegon Irish Fest and the Muskegon Polish Festival. During the 1940’s, he formed the “Pat Shields Band” and played for many area polka dances. Pat was an avid fan of Detroit Lion’s Football and Muskegon Catholic Central Football. His passion was his family and attending the many sporting events for his grandkids. Pat was a longtime fisherman and also enjoyed boating. Survivors include his loving wife, Diane Shields; 3 children, Mark (Sandy) Shields, Kurt (Maribeth) Shields, Kim Helton; 7 grandchildren, Stacey (Matt) Dundon, Christy Shields, Justin Shields, Jamie (Adam) Kushman, Ashley Shields, Logan Helton, Payton Helton; 8 great-grandchildren, Jacob Sladick, Maddison Dundon, Kendal Shields, X-Zavien Shields, Brody Dundon, Leo Shields, Becham Shields, Everett Kushman; 2 brothers, George (Virginia) Shields, Ray (Dodie) Shields; 1 sister, Kathleen Gallivan; 1 brother-in-law, Jack (Ellen) McCarl; 1 sister-in-law, Kay (Richard) Seymour; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (150 E. Summit Ave) with Rev. Fr. Douglas A. Braun presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass in the Victor Miller Room at Sacred Heart. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
