Paul Douglas Stachurski's Obituary
Paul Douglas Stachurski, age 77, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023 at his home in Muskegon. He was born on May 30, 1946 in Hamtramck, Michigan to Zygmunt and Martha (Samp) Stachurski. Paul served in the Air Force from 1964-1968. He married Antonette Colasanti on May 5, 1973. They enjoyed the ups and downs of marriage for 43 years, prior to her passing in 2016. Paul and Antonette moved to Traverse City in 1974, where they started their family, later moving to Muskegon in 1983. Paul earned his degree in Electronics Technology from Muskegon Community College in 1993 and worked in the Telecommunications field until his retirement. Diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2011, Paul underwent a stem cell transplant at Karmanos in Detroit. That transplant and the excellent care he subsequently received at CHCWM gifted him and his family with 11 years of unabashed honesty, humor and memories. Paul and his family feel deep and heartfelt gratitude to the staff at both facilities for the excellent care they provided over the years, in spite of Paul’s frustration with waiting rooms and filling out the same forms over and over again. A homebody, Paul enjoyed spending time in his man cave watching the news, political programs, Alaskan reality shows and Formula 1 racing. He perfected the art of fast forward and rewind to miss commercials. Paul curated a beautiful yard, enjoyed sitting on the patio, feeding the wildlife and sarcastically sharing lawn maintenance and yard work advice with his neighbors. Paul was passionate about climate change, energy conservation and Democracy. He loved big bowls of ice cream, Hawaiian pizza and the Detroit Lions. More than anything, he relished his role as grandfather and the special bond he had with Raena and Ryan, loving and spoiling them, attending sporting events, sharing his wisdom and supporting their interests. Never afraid to speak his truth or make his opinion known, Paul championed saying what was on his mind with unapologetic irreverence. When he spoke, you could never be quite certain what he would say. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind hearted soul unless you disagreed with him. Then he would make sure you knew you were wrong. Paul was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Robert; and sister, Elaine. He is survived by children, Lea (Eric) Norbotten and Heather (Dustin) Schultz; cherished grandchildren, Raena and Ryan; special nieces, Amy and Barbie; nephew, Cole and others. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Karmanos, CHCWM or the Democratic candidate of your choice. Arrangements by The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. You may sign his online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com As Paul was fond of saying, Adios.
