Paul G. Tyjewski's Obituary
Paul G. Tyjewski, age 77, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026. He was born on November 24, 1948, in Battle Creek, MI, to Cezar and Marie (Dickerson) Tyjewski. Paul graduated from Battle Creek Central High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy, as a corpsman, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following his military service, he earned his RN degree from Kellogg Community College and later his Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University. On August 16, 1969, he married the love of his life, the former Phyllis K. Shilling, in Homer, Michigan, and she survives him. Paul worked as a registered nurse for more than eight years at the former Mercy Hospital before founding and operating Professional Nursing Associates and Homcare, Inc. for 30 years prior to his retirement. An avid outdoorsman, Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, golfing, and spending time at the family cabin in Channing and the cottage on Blue Lake. He was also a proud member of VFW Post #3195, American Legion Post #9, Muskegon Elks Lodge #274, Viking Linne Lodge #57, and the Polish Falcons. Above all else, Paul cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, and his golden retrievers. Paul is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis; two daughters, Stacey (Thomas) Anderson and Lisa (John Foss) Tyjewski; five grandchildren, Spencer Paul, Avery Kay, Morgan Renee, Colton Thomas, and Gentry Joseph; sister, Cathy Tyjewski; half-brothers, Scott Bush and Steve Bush; and Uncle Ron (Pricilla) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Douglas and Daniel Tyjewski; and half-brother, Stuart Bush. Paul will be laid to rest in Ellis Cemetery, privately with his family. A public celebration of Paul’s life will be held from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in the Elks Room at the Muskegon Elks Lodge #274, 513 W. Pontaluna, Norton Shores, MI 49444.
