Mr. Paul Fredric Vanderwater's Obituary
Mr. Paul Fredric Vanderwater, age 78, passed away Monday evening, February 13, 2017, surrounded by his family at home. Paul was born December 31, 1938 in Muskegon to Douglas and Loyola (King) Vanderwater. He graduated from Muskegon Heights High School and served his country in the U.S. Army. Paul married the former Kathleen Greenwald on January 14, 1978 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Muskegon and she survives him. He and Kathie were longtime members of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Paul was a Vice President with Muskegon Federal Savings for 27 years and then President of the Muskegon Credit Bureau for 10 years prior to his retirement in 2001. He had also served at one time as the president of the Michigan Credit Bureau Association. Paul was a member of Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and a former member of the Elks and the Vikings. He loved golf and was passionate about classic cars. Most of all, he loved his family and in addition to Kathie, his wife of 39 years; he is survived by his children, Stephon VanderWater, Teresa LaVigne, and Jennifer (Stephen Benedict) Vanderwater, all of Muskegon; grandchildren, Kristen, Ryan, Courtney and Hunter Vanderwater; brother, Douglas (Gail) Vanderwater of Hesperia; sisters, Fran Harju of Beulah, MI, Julie (Don) Johnson of Muskegon, Marilyn (Hans) Vanneer of Portage, Anne (Jim) Sturgeon of Holton, and Michelle (Tom) Ferguson of Norton Shores; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nanette LaFrance; and brother, Richard Vanderwater. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be 11 AM Saturday, February 18, 2017 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 2929 McCracken St. with Rev. Fr. Norman Droski presiding. VISITATION will be Friday evening, February 17, 2017 from 5-8 PM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 and 1 hour prior to the mass at church (10-11 AM).
