Paula Z. Doig's Obituary
Mrs. Paula Z. Doig, age 73, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with dementia. She was born on July 3, 1946 to Paul Geeting and Iona Comer in Muskegon. Paula graduated from Muskegon High School in 1964 and went on to earn her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Michigan University. Paula spent 31 years as a 4-grade school teacher for Muskegon Public Schools and Angell School. While teaching she met Gary Doig and they were married on August 11, 1973. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and MEA and volunteered her time at MAP. Paula enjoyed spending time with her family traveling and hiking. She will be remembered as a strong-willed woman who always saw the best in every situation and her unconditional love will continue to shine through in the lives of all her students. Paula will be lovingly missed by her husband of 46 years, Gary; daughter, Leah (Jaime) Neal; grandson, Tyler Ellis; sister, Kay Fairfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, James (Kay) Doig, Mitchell Doig, Angretta (Steve) Opiteck and Janet Doig; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother-in-law, Rodney Doig. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-4PM Sunday, September 27 at Hagar’s Hideaway (3156 Lakeshore Dr., 49441). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Paula’s name may be directed to Muskegon Big Red Education Fund or MAP. Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
