Paul Edwin Pickard's Obituary
Mr. Paul Edwin Pickard, age 87, died Sunday morning, November 14, 2004. He was born April 30, 1917 in Detroit, MI to Edwin and Marguerite (Hogle) Pickard, and had been a Muskegon resident since 1996. Mr. Pickard was a WWII U.S. Air Force Veteran. He had worked for Central States Engineering, Peerless Gauge, and then had his own freelance business, Franklin Design, for several years. Mr. Pickard was a member of Calvary Church. Before moving to Muskegon, he was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church, where he had been a deacon, on the Mission Board, and past president of the youth. He also prayed daily for his family, and the missionaries of each church. Mr. Pickard enjoyed, skating, playing hockey, tennis, gardening, and sailing. He also volunteered tutoring children in Detroit. On December 12, 1942, he married the former A. Nellie Sherstad in Highland Park, MI and she survives him along with 3 children, Karen (David) Green of Beverly, MA, Timothy (Jan) Pickard of Adrian, MI, Greta (Michael) Blanchard of Unionville, CT; 8 grandchildren, Nathaniel, Elizabeth, and Jonathon Green, Ann Pickard, Ruth (Jeff) Gullekson, and Karen Pickard, Esther and Reuben Blanchard; 1 brother, George (Irene) Pickard of Florida; 1 sister, Helen (Paul) Hendon of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Miriam Burns. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Calvary Church with Rev. Terry Fulk officiating. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery. VISITATION will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd.(231) 759-8565.
