Pauline Ruth Manning's Obituary
Pauline Ruth (Carlson) Manning, age 83, died Wednesday morning, June 26, 2013. She was born October 13, 1929 in Holland, MI to Edward and Mildred (Lenox) Carlson and moved to Muskegon at age one, where she lived the remainder of her life, except for one year, immediately after her marriage. She was an active, lifelong member of the Muskegon Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she was organist for 60 years. On July 24, 1949 (63 years, 11 months and 2 days) she married Ivan C. “Bob” Manning; and he survives her along with 3 children, Carl (Rebecca) Manning of Littleton, CO, Juanita (Thomas) Manning-Walsh of Plainwell, MI and George (Cindy Houser) Manning of Muskegon; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Dorothy Arlene Hultgren and 1 brother, Bruce Edward Carlson. Pauline was an avid artist and enjoyed multiple forms of needlework, arts and crafts. She graduated from Emmanuel Missionary College in 1949 and Western Michigan University in 1969, with a M.A. in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school at Muskegon Seventh-day Adventist School for 7 years, 1 year at Phillips School, 1 year at Muskegon Heights’s Grace Loftis School and finished her career at Fruitport Public Schools where she taught 23 years. She also taught private piano and organ lessons from 1954-64; and managed the bookkeeping of Jansen-Manning Builders and Contractors from 1953-91. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held 11 AM Monday, July 1, 2013 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100) with Pastor Kameron B. Devasher officiating. Burial will be in Fruitport’s Pine Hill Cemetery. VISITATION with Pauline’s family will be 4-7:00 PM Sunday. For a more lasting memorial, the family suggests considering the Muskegon SDA Church or VNS Hospice.
