Peggy Jo Packard's Obituary
Peggy Jo Packard, age 77, joined her Lord and Savior in her heavenly home, while surrounded by her family on May 22, 2024, in North Muskegon, MI. She was born May 31, 1946, to Howard and Norma (Kelley) Etterman, in Muskegon, MI. She attended Muskegon High School and graduated in 1964. In 1965, Peggy met Jerry Packard who had just accepted a teaching position at Muskegon High School where she was a secretary. They married on April 9, 1966, and enjoyed fifty-eight beautiful, love-filled years together. Their union produced a legacy of four children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Peggy lived a life defined by love – both of Jesus and of her family. Her children and grandchildren were her entire world. She enjoyed bringing the family together through Sunday dinners and birthday party celebrations for each and every member of the family. Peggy was her grandchildren’s biggest supporter … attending every school function and sporting event, until her health decline prevented her from doing so. Nothing beats one of Grandma’s / Mimi’s hugs! She raised her family in faith and taught them to love the Lord as much as she did.
Peggy had a passion for serving and did so while she was a lifelong member of Lakeside Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Awana leader and Deaconess. Peggy’s ultimate passion was bringing the Gospel to children. She devoted many hours to Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) – bringing the Gospel to neighborhood boys & girls through summer 5-day Clubs held at her home, as well as through an after-school program at North Muskegon Public Schools where she brought the Word to children in that setting.
Peggy had an enormous heart and a beautiful, warm smile. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Peggy was deeply loved and will be missed tremendously.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Jerry; children, Robin (Guy) Hinton, Rochelle (Bruce) Fout, Re’nee (Gabe) Vlasma and Jason (Erica) Packard; grandchildren, Claire Hinton, Grayson Hinton, Bruce (Mary) Fout Jr., Brandon (fiancée Carlee-Anne Boone) Fout, Maelin Vlasma, Tayla Vlasma, Cameron Packard, Chloe Packard and Cylie Packard; great- grandchildren, Mason Samkowiak, Bruce Fout III, and Callie Jo Fout; sisters, Pamela Gietzen and Phyllis Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, George Etterman and Charles Etterman.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11 AM at Lakeside Baptist Church (2250 Denmark St., Muskegon, MI 49441).
