Percy L. "Buck" Stratton's Obituary
Mr. Percy Leo “Buck” Stratton, age 78, passed away Friday morning at the Harbor Hospice Poppen residence, following complications to diabetes. He was born in Nahma, MI on August 25, 1930 to Percy J. and Yvonne (Bedard) Stratton. The family moved to Muskegon when Percy was just a child and he attended Muskegon Hts. Schools. Buck was a 1948 graduate of Muskegon Hts. High School and was inducted into the Muskegon High Schools Sports Hall of Fame for being a member of the 1945-46-47 undefeated Muskegon Heights Tigers Football Team. Following graduation, he began service to his country in the U.S. Army serving in Korea. Buck was a Journeyman Carpenter by trade, working at Alstrom Construction and the Local 100 Carpenters Union. He was a life long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church until moving to Fremont in 1993. He was a current member of All Saints Catholic Church of Fremont, a life member of the Eagles, V.F.W. Post 3195, Knights of Columbus and was a past president of the First Catholic Slovak Union “Tatra Hall”. Buck honored his fellow veterans by being a volunteer with the American Legion Post 397 Honor Guard in Holton where he was a proud member. He was an avid U of M and Muskegon Catholic High School football fan, an avid golfer and enjoyed a good game of cards. Mr. Stratton is survived by: daughters, Gwene (Tim) Reagan of Fremont, Kathy (Dean) Jewett of Norton Shores, Susan Stratton of Muskegon and Dawn (Dennis) Dirheimer of Grand Haven; son, Steve (Andrea) Stratton of Grand Rapids; 13 grandchildren, Chad (Jennifer) Reagan, Deanna (Jim) Billings, Cori, Kyle, Jake, Sara and Patrick Jewett, Ryan (Andrea), Brandon, Jessica and Trevor Dirheimer and Alayna and Paige Stratton; 3 great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Casey Reagan and Oliver Dirheimer; brother, Bill (Brenda) Stratton of Fruitport; two sisters, Pat Schaner of Muskegon and Judy (Ross) Totten of Grand Rapids and former wife, Lillian Stratton of Norton Shores. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Eder this past year. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at: Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monday, 11:00 A.M., Fr. Thomas J. Brown Presiding.
