Mr. Peter Walter Graves' Obituary
Mr. Peter Walter Graves, age 90, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2015 at Grand Pines Assisted Living. He was born in White Cloud, MI on September 12, 1924 to Walter R. and Emma B. (Schotts) Graves. Pete was a veteran of the United States Army and the Air Force Reserves. He began working for Teledyne Continental Motors in 1950 and retired in 1986 as the head of Safety and Security. Pete was a member of the Muskegon Vikings, Muskegon Civic Theater, Ducks Unlimited and TPA. He enjoyed cooking and was considered a “Master Chef”, traveling, golfing, fishing, hunting, playing cards and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Pete was a practical joker and spent many holidays dressing up as the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. He also enjoyed writing and had written several poems and a children’s book. On September 15, 1951, Peter married the former Bette J. Medler in Muskegon and she preceded him in death in 2003. He is survived by one son, Mike (Linda) DeYoung; one grandson, Mitch (Margo) DeYoung, Jr.; two sisters, Virginia Thomasma and Kaye Katt; sister-in-law, Virginia (Graves) Dolphin; and many loving nieces, nephews and special niece, Michelle (Rick) Davis, and their daughters, Paige and Hannah. In addition to his wife, Pete was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Clint Graves and three sisters, Mary Stuewer, Grace Milton and Dorothea Smith. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 10, 2015 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with Rev. Craig Cramblet officiating. VISITATION will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday, July 9, 2015. MEMORIALS may be made to the John Graves Community Memorial Fund.
