Peter Kemme's Obituary
Peter Kemme, age 84, of Spring Lake passed away Friday, October 27, 2006 at a local hospital. He was born April 12, 1922, to John and Nellie (Boertje) Kemme in Olive Township and he married Marguerite Peck on May 22, 1950 in Indiana. She preceded him in death on June 12, 1992. Peter graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1941 and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Peter worked for Michigan Bell Telephone for 36 years, and he was a member of the American Legion Post 28, the V.F.W. Post 2326, and the Eagles Arie Lodge 925 for over 60 years. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Dublin, MI, and also spending time with his family.
Peter is survived by a daughter, Myra (Philip) Young of Grand Haven; a son, John (Sally) Kemme of Grand Haven; 7 grandchildren: Steve (Alycia) Kemme, Scott Kemme, Pete (Connie) Kemme, Lisa (Ken) Rose, Phil (Abby) Young, Adam Young, and Sean Young; and 9 great-grandchildren. Peter was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Catherine, Beryl, and Metta; 4 brothers, Claude, Casey, Jacob, and Ollie Kemme; and a special friend, Ruth Carlson. The service for Mr. Kemme will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2006 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with American Legion Post 28 Chaplain George Bennet officiating. Friends may meet the family 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 29, at the funeral home. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post 28 and V.F.W. Charles Conklin Post 2326.
