Peter Owen Silkworth's Obituary
Peter Owen Silkworth, age 59, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in Grand Haven. He was born on June 29, 1961 in Manistique, MI to Wibur and Madelyn (Fountain) Silkworth and grew up in Cooks, MI. After high school Pete joined the Coast Guard in 1980, and retired as a senior chief in 2000. Pete also worked and retired for the Board of Light and Power in 2015. Pete was known in the community as being a wonderful friend, always willing to help his neighbors-saying it “was no sweat” to help someone out. He was known as the “fix it dad”. Pete had a great sense of humor who made people laugh. His proudest moment in his life, was when his baby boy Nolan was born. Pete enjoyed tinkering with anything tractor related. He was known for his grill outs, brining turkey for turkey dinner, showing hospitality to his wife and son’s family and friends. He loved going to tractor shows every season with his friend Charlie, as well as going to breakfast with him and his friend Chris. He always enjoyed going hunting every year with his brother Wayne. After being in the Coast Guard for many years, Pete stated you could never pay him enough to get on another boat or plane again. Pete enjoyed the beauty of nature, and loved taking his dog Trixie for walks at all of the Ottawa County parks. He had a love of the blues, Godzilla movies and the original cowboy, John Wayne. In 1984 he married, Charlene Thomas and they spent 37 years together. She survives him along with their son, Nolan (Emily) Silkworth; dog, Trixie; Brother/Sisters, Roger Silkworth, David Silkworth, Daniel (Becky) Silkworth, Norma (John) Fox, and Wayne (Kelly) Silkworth; several nieces and nephews. Pete was preceded in death by two loving dogs Jack and Jill. Pete Silkworth will be missed greatly by his close family and friends. A private memorial will be held by Pete’s Family.
