Peter VanMeurs' Obituary

Mr. Peter VanMeurs, age 81, passed away unexpectedly at his home, July 18, 2011. He was born on December 6, 1929 to Abraham and Anna C. (Kabbedijk) VanMeurs in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. He graduated from Calvin College and was a teacher at Muskegon Christian School for 22 years, from 1956 to 1978. He was then employed at Haworth, Inc. in Holland for 16 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church, where he served as an elder. He was also active with Project Philip and distributing the Today devotionals. Peter married Ruth E. Brondsema on January 28, 1954, and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2011. SURVIVORS include 6 children, Deborah (Dan) Gasper of Gowen, MI, and their children Jeri (Mike) Bohms, Jessi, Terry, and Jill Gasper, Daniel VanMeurs of Grand Rapids, Douglas VanMeurs of Grand Rapids, and his children Chris (Keith) VanderWeide, and Liz VanMeurs, Dorace VanMeurs of Grand Rapids, and her children Nick and Laura Youells, David (Beth) VanMeurs of Grand Rapids, and their children Emily, Tyler, and Abby VanMeurs, Derek (Angela) VanMeurs of Grand Haven, and their children Mason and Elise VanMeurs; 2 great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Caleb; 1 sister-in-law, Doris Brondsema of Muskegon;many nieces and nephews; and 1 surviving cousin, Ina van den Burgh of the Netherlands. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday at the Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church, with Rev. Robert Bierenga officiating. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 will be from 2-5 PM Sunday, and 1 hour prior to the service at church.
