Peter N. Szukala's Obituary
Mr. Peter N. Szukala, age 83, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Mercy VNS Hospice House. He was born April 30, 1928 in Buffalo, NY to Peter and Sophie (Szafranski) Szukala. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII. He later moved to Cleveland, OH, where he met and married the former Marlene J. Stasek. Peter worked over 30 years as an ironworker in construction and was a member of Ironworkers Local 17 in Ohio for 56 years. He moved to the Muskegon area after retirement in 1985 and was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Peter was very creative and enjoyed building model doll houses in great detail – some of them even with electricity. He was very proud of his work and his family and friends will cherish the many doll houses he created. SURVIVORS include his wife, Marlene; 2 children, Alan (Julie Vanderlaan) Szukala and Diane Mortland both of Muskegon; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; his brothers and sisters, Robert (Judy) Szukala, Delores (Raymond) Abramowicz, Henry (Gerri) Szukala all of Dunkirk, NY, and Alice (Kurt) Daigel of Loudenville, NY; 2 sisters-in-law, Rosemary Farner of Palm Bay, FL and Frances (Dean) Crouch of West Salem, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews; and his companion Yorkie-poodle, “Abby”. He was preceded in death by his twin sons, Donald and Ronald Szukala in 1953; his parents; 3 sisters, Esther Girmek, Shirley Skelly, Irene Krzyzanowicz. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Anthony M. Pelak as celebrant. INTERMENT will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy VNS & Hospice, Inc.
