Peyton Mackenzie Burkhart's Obituary
Peyton Mackenzie Burkhart, age 10, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 17, 2025 in Free Soil, Michigan. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 26, 2015 to Jeremy and Dawn (Maierhauser) Burkhart. Peyton loved being in fifth grade at White Pines Intermediate School. Her huge smile, kind heart, and generous spirit made her a joy to be around. Though she often appeared quiet and somewhat shy, Peyton was always observant—and could be a strong, determined force when needed. She had a deep love for reading, having taught herself at the age of five. Peyton also adored the outdoors, where she could run, play tag, and swing to her heart’s content. She loved her cats, her baby dolls, playing Roblox, and eating pickles! Peyton was a devoted sister—striving to be the best big sister to her little brother and looking up to her older sister, her favorite person, trying to be just like her. She deeply loved her mom and dad, and cherished her entire family. Peyton will be forever remembered, deeply loved, and always held close in the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived by her parents, Jeremy and Dawn Burkhart; sister, Avery Burkhart; brother, Miles Burkhart; grandparents, Kevin and Janice Maierhauser, Kim and Cynthia Norris, and Kurt and Sheri Norris Myers; great-grandparents, Duane and Gloria Burkhart; aunts and uncles, Scott and Alayna Norris Lackey, Sam and Courtney Norris, Mitchell Norris, Jake Maierhauser, and Julie and Matt Wojcik; two cousins, Trace Maierhauser and Sophia Wojcik. VISITATION will be held from 2-6 PM Sunday, October 26, 2025 at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, Michigan 49417. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 27, 2025 at First Reformed Church, 301 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, Michigan 49417 with Pastor John Kenny officiating.
