Philip D. Spring's Obituary
Philip D. Spring, age 85, passed away at home on Saturday, October 1, 2016. He was born on June 4, 1931 to Frank and Olga (Cheplevich) Spring in Grand Rapids. Phil served his county in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked 41 years as a railroad engineer conductor with SPX Railroads and spent most of his time working on the Cannonball train route. Phil was an avid outdoorsman; hunting and fishing was such a big part of his life. He also ran and operated a charter fishing boat for many years. On September 1, 1956 he married Marilyn Joyce and she preceded him in death in 2007. Phil is survived by his son, Philip (Wendy Morden) Spring; his daughter, Kelly McKinnon; grandchildren, Brandon and Nathan Spring, Lauren (Kevin) Wells, Jessica (Lee) Usmail, Amy McKinnon and Bobbie McKinnon; great-grandchildren; Alainah Spring and Marley Wells, Khol and Leo Usmail; brother, Ronald Spring and sister, JoAnn Morris. Phil was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim Spring. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, October 6, 2016 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., 231-726-5210. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS can be directed to Mercy VNS Hospice.
