Mr. Phillip Anton Kent's Obituary
Mr. Phillip Anton Kent, age 31, passed away at his home Tuesday, June 19, 2012 with his loving family at his side. Phillip demonstrated incredible courage and perseverance during his long illness and always without complaint. He was born July 19, 1980 in Charlotte, MI to Rick and Joan (Shaffer) Kent and was a resident of the Muskegon area most of his life. Phillip graduated from Orchard View High School in 1999. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Baker College and had been working toward his master’s degree in manufacturing technology at the University of Michigan. Phillip’s drive to achieve any goal was an inspiration for all those around him. He was very proud of his internship in electronic technologies with Motorola Corporation in Plantation, FL, and was invited back which is considered a great honor. Phillip had a passion for restoring old or damaged cars to near perfection and his quality work was in high demand. He had a deep love for all animals, especially for his beloved dog, Shelby. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. SURVIVORS include his mother, Joan Warnaar of Muskegon; his father and step-mother, Rick & Christine Kent of Iron River, MI; 1 brother, Thomas Kent of Terre Haute, IN; 1 sister, Bethany (Christian) Ibarra of Weston, FL; 2 step-brothers, Jason (Lara) MacGregor of Louisville, KY, Erin (Amy) MacGregor of Walled Lake, MI; 3 step-sisters, Laura (Bruce) Hood of Cedar, MI, Debbie (Brian) Bauer of Virginia, Linda Warnaar of St. Johnsbury, VT; paternal grandparents, Clifford & Stella Kent of Montague; aunts and uncles, Mike & Leslie Ostyn of Grant, Randy & Diane Shaffer of Irons, Fran Fairfield of Pentwater, Randy & Diane Kent of Muskegon, Tim & Lori Wygant of Muskegon, Paul & Sharon Honore of Whitehall; cousins, Roscoe & Shay Ostyn, Heidi Lusk, Andrew Shaffer and many other caring cousins; and 3 beautiful nieces, Lucy Bella Kent, Amelia Christina Ibarra and Sabrina Marie Ibarra. Phillip was preceded in death by his step-father, Donald Warnaar; maternal grandparents, Leonard & Florence Shaffer; and his uncle, James Fairfield. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, June 25, 2012 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Antony Britto as celebrant. INTERMENT will take place at Fruitport Cemetery. VISITATION will be held 3-6 PM Sunday at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210. The Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 PM Sunday. VISITATION will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 10-11 AM Monday, at the church.
