Phillip L. "Bud" Maxey's Obituary
Mr. Phillip L. “Bud” Maxey, age 89, died Friday morning, May 23, 2008. He was born February 4, 1919 in Bellair, IL to Orville and Leoma (King) Maxey and had been a Muskegon area resident since 1946. Mr. Maxey was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, was a former P.O.W., a double Purple Heart recipient, and a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was also an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He worked for Teledyne Continental Motors for 41 years before retiring in 1987. Mr. Maxey liked to stay busy. He was good at home repairs, enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a gardener and bee keeper. On August 9, 1947 he married the former Eloda L. Somers in Muskegon and she survives him along with 8 children, Cheryl (Donald) Hall of Twin Lake, Steven (Krista) Maxey of North Carolina, Cindy (David) Darcy of North Muskegon, Kevin Maxey, Timothy Maxey both of Muskegon, Phillip L. Maxey of Key West, FL, Thomas Maxey of Muskegon, Lisa (James) Cook of Holland; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Barkley of Greenup, IL. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 2:30 PM Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Norman Droski presiding. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum. VISITATION with the family will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday at
