Mrs. Phyllis E. Haase's Obituary
Mrs. Phyllis (Toshach) Haase, of Norton Shores, died April 3, 2012, at the age of 92. She was born on July 18, 1919 in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada, to Enos and Myrtle (McGill) Toshach. Enos was a prominent citizen who owned Toshach’s Shoes and Department Store and was a sponsor of the Miners hockey team. Phyllis attended the University of British Columbia where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later received a degree in Registered Nursing from the University of Alberta. While attending a dance at the USO Club in Edmonton, she met Eugene Haase who she referred to affectionately as “Sarge.” Haase was serving in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII and stationed in Canada. They were married in Canada on July 9, 1947. They moved to Muskegon where Gene initially worked at Grossmans before opening Haase Hardware. Phyllis worked side by side with her husband at the hardware store. Phyllis devoted herself to her marriage of 64 years and raising their children. Phyllis and her husband spent many days sailing on their boat “The Encounter” on Grand Traverse Bay from Northport. They also traveled extensively. Phyllis was instrumental in instilling a love of nature and animals in her children. She was preceded in death by her son David Haase: her parents; sister, Sheila and brother, Een. She is survived by her loving husband, Gene; son, Robert (Jan) Haase, daughter Sheila E. (Frank Michels) Molenkamp; and grandson, Jake (Jenn) Molenkamp. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 9, 2012, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Julie Winklepleck officiating. VISITATION will be from 2 – 5PM Saturday at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd.,
