Phyllis Kennedy Hume's Obituary
Phyllis Kennedy Hume, age 90, beloved mother, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021 surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born June 23, 1930 in Grand Rapids to Dan M. and Violet M. (Ferris) Kennedy. Phyllis was a graduate of St. Jean the Baptiste High School and had attended Mary Grove College. Phyllis worked 25 years for the Kaydon Corporation prior to her retirement. On July 14, 1951, she married William A. “Bill” Hume in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on July 29, 2000. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, was a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Garden Club of Muskegon. Phyllis also volunteered at the Hackley Hospital Gift Shop for many years. She enjoyed singing, Notre Dame football, and wearing high heels. SURVIVORS include 5 daughters: Patti (Jack) Peltier, Susan (Steve) Schuitema, Mary Beth (Bob) Korndorfer, Sally Geerlings, and Nancy (Tim) Susterich; 12 grandchildren: Kelli Jo and Kara Peltier, Scott (Gabrielle) Schuitema, Jacob Schuitema, Patrick, Katie, and Max Korndorfer, Aric and Brandon Geerlings, Megan (Tyler) McCarl, Courtney and Ryan Susterich; and 2 great-grandchildren: Adella Schuitema and Jack McCarl; 2 sisters: Pat (Ray) Cole and Mary Jo (Terry) Herron; 2 sisters-in-law: Alice Kennedy and Lorie Hume; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jim Kennedy and brother-in-law, Mike “BoBo” Hume. The family would like to thank and recognize the wonderful staff at DaySpring Assisted Living for the exceptional care given to their beautiful mother. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. R. Louis Stasker presiding. VISITATION with the family will be from 5-8 PM Monday, May 3, 2021 at the church. Entombment will take place in St. Mary’s Mausoleum. MEMORIALS to Muskegon Catholic Central Baseball or the Harbor Hospice Foundation will be appreciated.
