Phyllis M. Kuharevicz's Obituary
Phyllis Marie Kuharevicz, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on April 13, 2023. Phyllis was born in Muskegon on October 15, 1931, to Albert and Mary (Laskowicz) Kufta. The youngest of three daughters, she graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1949 and married Robert S. Kuharevicz on September 4, 1954, which she declared the happiest day of her life. Together they raised six children, five of whom survive her: Jean (Fritz) Hayes of Tacoma, WA; Linda (Peter) Beck of Edisto Beach, SC; Nancy Kuharevicz of Ann Arbor, MI; and Joseph and Michael Kuharevicz of Muskegon. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Barton (Cassie), Sarah, and Emily Hayes; Zackary (Meghan) and Lauren (Matthew Frisch) Beck; and Kali Kuharevicz; five great-grandchildren: Ava, Barton, Lucia, Saffiatu, and Adeline – with a sixth due in September; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rita and Clair Rederstorf; numerous nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends. She was preceded by her parents; husband; sister and brother-in-law, Genevieve and Jay DeKuiper, sister and brother-in-law Connie and Ray Froster; daughter, Ann Marie Kuharevicz; and grandson, Patrick Kuharevicz. Phyllis was a parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Church, where for many years she used her flare for flower arranging to help decorate the church as part of the Art and Environment Committee. Back in the day, she worked as a server at the old Pontaluna Country Club and also helped out her friend, Marcella Tejchma, who had a catering business. Phyllis was proud of her Polish heritage and loved everything associated with the culture, including polka concerts and radio shows, Polish dinners, Polish festivals, and polka jam night at the Polish Union. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and looked forward to celebrating birthdays, holidays, and special occasions with them. A Rosary service will be led by Sister Agnes Mary and will take place at 1:30 p.m. with visitation from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1716 Sixth St., Muskegon, MI 49441 with Rev. Phil Sliwinski presiding. A luncheon will follow at the Knights of Columbus, 2915 Fairfield St., Norton Shores, MI 49441. Entombment will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church will be appreciated. Share memories with the family at www.sytsemafh.com.
