Phyllis Mary Wahlberg's Obituary
Phyllis Mary Wahlberg, beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born on April 22, 1947, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Phyllis attended Grand Rapids Central High School, where she met her loving husband, John Wahlberg. She was a caring, selfless individual who devoted her life to her family, education, and volunteering.
Phyllis earned a Bachelor's degree and two Master's Degrees in Education from Western Michigan University. She had a fulfilling career at Muskegon Public Schools, where she served as both a teacher and an administrator. One of her many passions was her extensive volunteer work with organizations such as Every Woman’s Place, Supper House, Women Who Care, Friends of Hackley Library, and Mediation for Restorative Justice. She was also an active member of the Christian Science Church. Phyllis loved traveling, being outdoors, walking, reading, and sewing, but most of all, she cherished time spent with her family.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Evered and Anna Katherine Dudley, as well as her sisters, Joan Chalk and Lois Yates. She is survived by her loving husband, John Wahlberg; their three sons and their wives: Curtis and Melanie Wahlberg, Eric and Karen Wahlberg, and Chad and Michelle Wahlberg; and her seven cherished grandchildren: Jacqueline “JJ”, Lindsey, Alexander, Jacob, Sam, Emma, and Autumn. Phyllis also leaves behind her sister, Sue (Dave) Pocklington; her brother, Gordon Dudley; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Sonja Visser; her brother-in-law, Dave Chalk; her brother-in-law, Bill Yates; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. Phyllis will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 on Friday, February 21st, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. In memory of Phyllis, and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Every Woman’s Place in her honor.
