Phyllis Leone Berg's Obituary
Mrs. Phyllis Leone Berg, age 93, formerly of 1348 Allen Ave and most recently the Sanctuary at the Oaks, passed away early Monday morning, September 7, 2009 at Heartwood Lodge, Hospice of N. Ottawa. Phyllis was born in Jackson, MI on April 17, 1916 to J. Roscoe and Elizabeth (Carpenter) Holmes. She married Frederick E. Berg on August 10, 1940. She is survived by: husband, Fritz; sister, Mona Morton of Fremont; son, Glenn (Janet) Berg of Grand Haven; daughter, Sharon (Leland) Decent of Wauchula, FL; six grandchildren, Lori McDiarmid, Denise Cole, Rachel Taylor, Chere Smith, Mitch Decent and Tim Decent and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, E.J. Hart and sisters, Meda Shackelford and Marian Slocum. Prior to her retirement in 1976, Phyllis was employed at Sealed Power Corp and then American Coil Spring. Phyllis enjoyed dancing, team bowling, traveling and spending winters in Florida. She was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, 930 Creston St. where a memorial service will be held at, 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 12, 2009, Rev. Julie Winklepleck officiating. Interment was at Sunrise Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorial Contributions: Alzheimer’s Association or the Church.
