Raymond G. Hanslits' Obituary
Raymond Gerald Hanslits, age 84, passed away in Troy, MI, on Friday, March 27, 2026. He was born in Muskegon, MI, on January 28, 1942, to Michael and Rose (Berzsenyi) Hanslits. He attended St. Joseph’s Seminary in Grand Rapids and then received his bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College, then going on to receive his master’s degree from Marquette University. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. On December 24, 1966, he married the former Madelyn Sliwinski, and the two of them spent 55 wonderful years building their family together until she preceded him in death in 2022. He worked for over 40 years as a trust officer for Comerica Bank where he received the Employee of the Year award.
He was also a longtime member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served for a time as the president of the parish council. Raymond volunteered for United Way for many years and was also a member of the Optimist Club of Muskegon. He was an avid historical reader and had a special place in his heart for Basset Hounds having rescued several over the years. Ray loved working on computers and was proud of his early adoption of Apple Computers in the 1980’s. He was known for his dry sense of humor and as a dedicated husband and father.
Raymond will be lovingly remembered by his three children: Christopher (Kerry) Hanslits, Patrick (Cathleen) Hanslits, and Judith (Robert) Robbins; four grandchildren: Annalea (Brian), Samuel, Joshua (Ashley), and Ethan (Alexa); two great-grandchildren, Wren and Piper; and brother, Mike (Sally) Hanslits. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, as well as his brother, Joe (Ecterine) Hanslits.
A Memorial Mass will be taking place at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1716 Sixth St, Muskegon, MI, 49441, with Visitation taking place an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Way of the Lakeshore or Habitat for Humanity.
