Raymond Ernest St. Amour's Obituary
Raymond Ernest St. Amour passed away on January 4, 2019 at the age of 92.
The youngest of the five children of Anna and Charles St. Amour, Ray was born on October 4, 1926, and grew up attending Muskegon Schools. At the age of 15, at the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Civil Air Patrol. A year later he entered the Army Air Corps where he trained as a B-29 mechanic. After his discharge from service, he attended Muskegon Community College and the University of Michigan, graduating with a degree in Natural Resources. He was employed by Roddis Plywood in Wisconsin a short time, returning to Muskegon to work for Michigan Consolidated Gas Company. He worked in engineering and marketing until his retirement in 1984.
Ray was proud of his WWII service and liked talking about the war and its aircraft. Ray enjoyed gardening and being outdoors, feeding and watching the birds, and serving as grill master for family gatherings. He and wife, Lois, enjoyed antiques and attending auctions, traveling in New England, supporting their grandchildren’s sports and other activities, and the company of their terriers.
He was dearly loved by his family and is survived by: wife, Lois, of over 61 years; daughters, Gayle St. Amour, Cheryl (Tim) Arter, and Pamela St. Amour; grandchildren, Andrew (Jenna) Arter, Emilee (Jon) Brickner, Jennie (fiancé Tim Coletta) Arter; and great-grandchildren, Owen Arter, Oliver Arter, Mae Arter, and Liam Brickner. His Welsh Terrier, Elizabeth, will miss her daily walks with him.
The family has held a private graveside service with full military honors for Ray. Please consider a memorial gift to the Land Conservancy of West Michigan (www.naturenearby.org). Arrangements entrusted to The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. Share memories with the family online at www.sytsemafh.com
