Raymond O. Strong's Obituary
Mr. Raymond Owen Strong, age 77, passed away Tuesday morning, December 29, 2009. He was born August 11, 1932 in Phelps, WI to James and Anna Margaret (Rodrick) Strong. Mr. Strong was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam, and served as a 1st Sergeant for 20 years before retiring in 1973. During his service in the military, he received a Bronze Star and several marksman awards. He also was a member of the VFW Derezinski Post 7729 and the American Legion Post 9. Mr. Strong owned and operated Twin Pine Taxidermy for a number of years before retiring in 2005. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at his cabin on the river with his family and friends. On September 21, 1956 he married the former Adelheid Margareta Thielen and she preceded him in death on July 7, 2007. SURVIVORS include his daughter, Heidi Strong of Muskegon; 2 grandsons, Richard and Robert Yager; brother, Clarence (Rita) Strong of Wauwatosa, WI; 2 sisters, Mary (Jack) Stewart of Brookfield, WI, and Agnes Spake of Zimmerman, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 8 brothers; and 7 sisters. THE FUNERAL LITURGY will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, January 4, 2010 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Michael Olson presiding. Burial will be in Egelston Twp. Cemetery. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. MEMORIALS to the VFW Derezinski Post 7729 or Harbor Hospice will be appreciated.
