Raymond "Ray" Martinez's Obituary
Mr. Raymond “Ray” Martinez, age 69, died at home surrounded by his loving wife and daughters on Monday, August 14, 2006. He was born February 22, 1937 in Muskegon to Luz and Carmen (Serna) Martinez and lived his entire life in the area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. On March 7, 1970, he married the former Marilyn B. Burmingham and she survives him. Prior to his retirement in 1993, he worked over 25 years as an X-ray technician for Howmet Corp. Ray was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling and was a stout U of M fan. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. SURVIVORS include his wife of 36 years, Marilyn; 4 daughters, Sharon (Mike) Klinge, Shawn (Michael) Sloan, Carmen (Scott) DeFabrizio, Becky (Matt) Walker; 12 grandchildren (with 1 on the way), Cassie, Valerie, Michael Jr., Nicholas, Kenny, Meghan, Morgan, Carey Lynn, William, Carter, Taylor, and Cale; 1 great grandson, Raymond; 2 brothers, Louie Martinez, Tony (Connie) Martinez; 7 sisters, Rosa Bringedahl, Theresa Panzero, Mary (Harold) Stoops, Molly (Lee) Smith, Carmen (Frank) Richards, Virginia (Jose`) Reyes, Theresa Rivera; sister-in-law, Paulette (Merritt) Archer. He was preceded in death by his parents. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, August 18, 2006 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Michael P. Olson presiding. ENTOMBMENT will follow at St. Mary’s Mausoleum with Honorary Military Rites offered by VFW #446. VISITATION with Ray’s family will be 6-8 PM Wednesday (this evening), 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday at the Sytsema Funeral Home, 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210.
