Mrs. Refugia Julia Gonzales' Obituary
Mrs. Refugia Julia Gonzales, age 91, passed away Thursday morning, November 30, 2017 at her home Julia was born July 4, 1926 in Poteet, TX, to Adolfo and Justa (Flores) Herrera. On March 14, 1942, she married Mr. Juan Gonzales Jr. and together they moved to this area in 1950. Juan preceded Julia in death on January 7, 2003. Julia was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where she was active in the choir and also the Cursillo movement. She had been a seasonal worker with Hekkema & Sons farm for many years. Julia enjoyed sewing, gardening, The Detroit Tigers, and spending time with her grandkids. She is survived by her children, Anita Gonzales, Felix Gonzales, Bea Miller, Davey (Nanette) Gonzales, Connie Frances (James) Jurmbo, Mary Lou (Scott) Greiner-Keiser, and Juan (Annie) Gonzales lll; 30 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Juan, Julia was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Maria L. Gonzales; 3 sons, Jose, Roger, and Jesus Gonzales. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be 11 AM Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 451 S. Getty St. with Rev Fr. Matthew Barnum as celebrant. VISITATION will Monday, December 4, 2017 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave 231-726-5210 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM with the Rosary being prayed at 6 PM, and also one hour prior to the Mass (10-11 AM) at the church.
