Rev. Rex E. Bean's Obituary
Rev. Rex E. Bean, age 95, passed to his heavenly home on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at The Clark Retirement Community. He was born on August 8, 1923 to Clarence and Lucy (Losey) Bean in Hillsdale, MI. After high school, Rex enrolled at Western Michigan University until he enlisted and proudly served in the United States Air Force. Upon his arrival home from the military he re-enrolled at Western and that’s where he met the love of his life, Margaret. He and Margaret got married on July 9, 1949 and their love lasted until his passing. The two were never far apart and were a true representation of what a loving and faithful marriage should be; though Margaret was not present with her mind, her spirit was felt every time Rex would go visit to hold her hand. Rex worked as the Director of Guidance for Mona Shores High School for many years until the call from the Lord came and he accepted an early retirement to pursue his pastoral studies. Rex was one of the kindest people to have walked the earth. He was a true disciple of his Lord, being the faithful cornerstone of his family, friends, the congregation at Temple United Methodist Church and the Clark Retirement community where he lived the last 19 years of his life. Even in his later years Rex had his mind and a steel trap memory. Aside from his family, Rex’s passion in life was watching his beloved Detroit Tigers play ball. He was very active at his retirement community; he participated in many activities from performing in plays, tending the community rose garden, acting as president of the resident council, and was featured in the community wide “Lip Dub” video. Rex is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Margaret Bean; daughters, Gwenneth L. Bean, Cynthia K. (Michael) Jakeway; grandchildren, Brittany M. (Troy) Hallin, Kelsey E. (Ben Hausman) Jakeway, Jeffrey M. (Tiara) Jakeway; brother, Russell (Orda Mae) Bean. A MEMORIAL SERVICE to celebrate Rex’s life will take place on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11:00 AM at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231-798-1100) with Pastor Gerald Hagans presiding. For a more lasting memory donations in Rex’s name can be made to Temple United Methodist Church.
