Rex L. Swaninger's Obituary
Mr. Rex L. Swaninger, age 75, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at his home. He was born September 21, 1935 in Lima, OH to Donald and Ruth (Fry) Swaninger. Rex served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was employed at General Motors Powertrain Foundry in Defiance, OH, until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Muskegon Church of Christ. He married the former Sharon Hyde-DeCan in Angola, IN on December 24, 1990. She survives him along with, 4 daughters, Kathy (Tim) Kestner of Reading, MI, Karen (Bruce) Schwiebert of Scottsburg, VA, Karol McCance of Virginia Beach, VA and Kelly Junge of Deshler, OH; 2 step-children, Sheila DeCan (Don) Fann of Muskegon and Michael DeCan of Montague, MI; 1 sister, Donna Shoemaker of West Leipsic, OH; 1 brother, Gerald (Susan) Swaninger of Ottawa, OH; his brother-in-law, Donald (Anne) Hyde of Muldin, SC; a special nephew, Steve (Jane) Shoemaker of Findlay, OH; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Kevin, sister, Ginny, and his grandson, Dusty Kinder. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 with Rev. Timothy Bryson officiating. VISITATION will be Wednesday, 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Spring Lake Cemetery. MEMORIAL contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
