I'm so sorry to hear about Dick's death. I was planning to visit him in Florida this May in conjunction with a reunion of the USS Ticonderoga in Tampa.
I communicated with Dick over the past few years, partly about a family tree I attempted to make. He gave me many helpful corrections. On one Christmas card I sent him was a picture of our family, my mother, Polly Hansen, my dad Dick Edwards, me and my brother Rob Edwards in our little house in Chicago. Dick wrote back that he helped us move to that house. Dick also gave me contact info for his sons, who have kept in touch. Jim called to tell me about Dick's passing.
On a work trip I took to Detroit, I made a detour to Lansing and to Grand Haven. I spent the night with Dick and Laurie at the cabin, the same cabin where I had stayed with them in 1960. They were so hospitable and funny--I forgot how fun our family could be.
I am so sorry he is gone, but glad to have known him. I'll be with you in spirit. Best wishes, Rick Edwards
