Richard Allen "Dick" Brooks' Obituary
Richard Allen “Dick” Brooks, age 83, passed away Monday, March 25, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born October 12, 1940 in Muskegon to Dalton and Helen Brooks and was a lifelong resident. He married Shirley Ann Wood in Muskegon on April 6, 1963 and worked 46 years as a pattern maker. Starting out sweeping floors at the age of 16, he was offered an apprenticeship and worked for both Paragon Pattern and Seaway Pattern, retiring in 2002. Dick was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #706, the Vikings Linne Lodge #57, and the Muskegon Elks Lodge #274. A graduate of Muskegon Catholic Central’s Class of 1959, Dick was a faithful Crusader fan and never missed the MCC Rainbow Auction in 40 years. He cherished the time spent with many lifelong friends in Muskegon and Fremont; and will be remembered for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor. Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley; 3 children, Jeffery (Rhonda) Brooks, Amy (Mark) Stevens, Jennifer (Matt) Carlton; 6 grandchildren, Lauren (Ryan VanderWagen) Brooks, Nick (DJ Clemmons) Brooks, Zac (Rosa) Stevens, Austin Stevens, Lucas Carlton, Claire Carlton; 1 great-grandson, August Allen VanderWagen; 1 sister, Mary Signs and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Patricia Lawrence. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00PM Saturday, March 30, 2024 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 with Rev. Msgr. R. Louis Stasker presiding. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service, beginning at 1:00PM. The family has invited everyone to gather at Knights of Columbus for food and fellowship immediately following the service.
