Richard N. "Dick" Ferris' Obituary
Richard N. “Dick” Ferris, age 88, met his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. He was born on January 31, 1931 to Newell and Irene (Rasmusson) Ferris in Newaygo, MI. He was a proud veteran, serving his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a machinist for 36 years at the Piston Ring Company. On August 11, 1951 he married the love of his life, the former Jacklyn Cooper in Muskegon, MI. Together they cherished 62 years of marriage full of love and laughter. Jacklyn preceded him in death on May 7, 2014. Dick was known to be a hardworking man with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his family. He was a family man and motor home road trips were a tradition for the Ferris family. He and Jacklyn also made numerous trips with friends to Las Vegas to test their luck. He will be remembered for being a wise guy and always bringing a smile to your face. He will be missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his 4 children, Rev. Richard (Robin) Ferris, Garry Ferris, Brenda (Dara Hammerle) Locke and Steven Ferris; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Tom (Jean) Ferris and Roger Ferris. He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sister, Joann Gauthier and Marjorie David; and 3 brothers, Ralph Ferris, Donald Ferris and John Ferris. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, January 13, 2020 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442. Visitation with the family will be held one-hour prior. Memorial contributions in Richard’s honor can be made direct to the Harbor Hospice Foundation.
