Richard Allen Harley's Obituary
Mr. Richard Allen Harley Sr., age 71, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 11, 2020 in Foley, Alabama. He was born in Muncie, Indiana on August 4, 1948 to Fredrick and Martha (Faust) Harley. Richard was a veteran of the United States National Guard. He graduated from Purdue University in 1971 with an engineering degree. Richard worked as an engineer for several different companies including CWC Textron in Muskegon, Oshkosh Trucking in Wisconsin, Volvo Construction Equipment in Pennsylvania, and many other contract jobs before retiring from Belcan Tech Services. Richard was a long-time member of the Muskegon Railroad Historical Society and Coopersville Marne Railway and a lodge member of the VFW and American Legion Post. He loved his family and especially took pride in his grandchildren. He enjoyed taking his family on road trips in his motor home and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. On May 16, 1981, Richard married the former Margaret Ann “Margo” Smith-Patterson and she survives him along with two sons, Kenneth (Kathryn) Patterson of Muskegon and Keith (Tara) Patterson of Danville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Lauryn, Landen, Paige, Maddie, and Senior Airman Keelan Patterson; and his sister, Sheila (Louie) Mullins of Muncie, Indiana. Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard Allen “Richie” Harley, II, his parents and his parents-in-law, Gene and Francis Smith. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Gerald Hagans officiating. VISITATION with his family will be from 1-2 PM Saturday.
