Mr. Richard "Dick" Johnson's Obituary
Mr. Richard (Dick) Johnson, 84, of Fremont, Michigan, passed away quietly on March 27, 2015 at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida. Mr. Johnson attended Michigan State University and came back to Muskegon to work for his father at Port City Machine and Tool. In the early sixties he went on to form Johnson Mold & Manufacturing Company, later to become Johnson Technology, now G.E. Aviation. He also founded E.P.C. Industries, Northern Boiler and Mechanical Contractors, Wildlife Place and Northland Properties. He was a very generous contributor to and supporter of both the Fremont and Muskegon communities in which he lived. He has served on The Board of Directors for The Muskegon Community Foundation, The Fremont Community Foundation, and Comerica Bank . He has been involved in the Muskegon Elks and the Muskegon Jaycees. He is a past president of The Muskegon Manufacturers Association. He was a life member of The Safari Club International and a life member of Ducks Unlimited and a founding member of The Elk Breeders Association of Michigan. He was an avid outdoorsman responsible for restoring and preserving more wetlands in Michigan than any other private individual. He is survived by his wife of thirty eight years, Patti , daughter Lynn New of Muskegon, son Mark Johnson of Naples, FL, son Kevin Johnson (Lynn Magennis) of Canton, NC., step-son Mitchell (Stacy) Jordan of Spring Lake and step-daughter Jill (Dan) Vander Sys of Grant, MI. His surviving grandchildren include Lindsey New, Kaleb Johnson, Jesse Brower, Jentry (Jermey) Craighead, Kate (Tony) Swedburg and Nick (Wendy) Vander Sys. He is also survived by his brother Donald Johnson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Verna Johnson, brothers Calvin Johnson and Carl A. Johnson, Jr., son Brad Johnson, son-in-law Jack New, step-son Jeffrey (Brigitte) Jordan and grandson Jimmy Jordan. You may meet the family on Friday, May 29, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, Michigan. A CELEBRATION of Mr. Johnson’s LIFE will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the The Lee Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fremont Community Foundation, Muskegon Community Foundation or Hospice.
