Mr. Richard "Dick" Penny's Obituary
Mr. Richard Eugene “Dick” Penny, age 82, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at an area nursing home. Dick was born September 28, 1934 in Muskegon to William E. and Gertrude A. (Brashear) Penny. Dick served his country in the U.S. Army. On December 1, 1956, he married the former Joanne Francis Foy and she survives him. Dick worked at West Michigan Steel for more than 30 years, retiring in 2001 as plant engineer. He started his career as a draftsman with Morton Manufacturing. Dick was a member of the Lakeside Eagles, loved hunting, fishing, old movies and spending time with his family. In addition to Joanne, his wife of 60 years, Dick is survived by his children, Brian R. (Kathy) Penny of Burlington, WI and Kim M. (Jeffery) Burr of Muskegon; 6 grandchildren. Heather, Stephen, Holly, Rachel, Michelle, and Jamie; a sister, Sandra Edwards of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Matthew Burr; his son, Michael J. “Mike” Penny; and sister, Twyla Durham. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 213-798-1100 with Full Military Rites afforded under the auspices of the V.F.W. Muskegon County Council. VISITATION will be Monday evening, March 20th from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
