Richard Lynn "Dick" Seymour's Obituary
Richard L. “Dick” Seymour, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home after a long battle of lung cancer on Monday, March 10, 2025 surrounded by his family and constant companion Kobe (grand dog). He was born June 22, 1936 in Fremont, MI to George “Ted” and Catherine “Billie” (McCormick) Seymour and lived in the area most of his life. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and Muskegon Catholic Central High School. Dick was a veteran of the US Army and was stationed in Fairbanks, AK. On September 29, 1965, he married Kay G. McCarl in Las Vegas, NV. Dick worked in construction with Bowen-Milas Company for most of his life and then worked at S.D. Warren Papermill and retired in 1999. He was a member of the Vikings Linne Lodge #57. Dick enjoyed gardening and tending to his meticulously mowed lawn. He had a greenhouse so he could grow flowers and plants year-round. He also enjoyed woodworking and especially spending time with his family. He was a devoted Lion’s Fan, but his favorite sports were the teams his grandsons played on. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 1/2 years, Kay Seymour; 2 sons, Scott Johnson and Todd (Nichole) Johnson; 3 grandsons, Brock, Jake and Zak Johnson; 2 sisters, Leah Rae Morse, Mary Lou Murray; 1 sister-in-law, Mary Ann Seymour; and many loving nieces and nephews with a special bond to nephew Bobby Morse. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, George “Peach” Seymour; 2 sisters, Sr. Barbara Ann Seymour OP, Pat “Toots” Larsen; 3 brothers-in-law, Jim Morse, Paul Larsen and Chuck Murray; and 1 nephew, Jamie Morse. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday, March 22, 2025 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 2929 McCracken Street, Norton Shores, MI 49441 with Military Honors offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Michigan Army National Guard Honor Detail. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the Mass. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Harbor Hospice Foundation (www.harborhospicemi.org).
