Richard L. Stafford's Obituary
Richard Lyle Stafford, age 84, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024. He was born October 26, 1939 in Grand Haven, MI to William and Leila (Bush) Stafford. Dick was a 1957 graduate of Grand Haven High School and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. On March 26, 1960, he married Velma W. Brickey in Spring Lake, MI and had many wonderful years together. Dick was a member of Operating Engineers Local 324 in Grand Rapids, MI and worked many years for various companies as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic prior to his retirement. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed following the Tigers. He was also very involved in the Tri-Cities Kids League for many years. But most of all, he loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by many. SURVIVORS include his wife of 64 years, Velma; five children: Rebecca Stafford of Montague, Ronda Tate of Montague, Roberta “Bobbi” (Paul) Scharphorn of Grand Haven, Kenneth (Tina) Stafford of Grand Haven, and David (Kelly) Stafford of Grand Haven; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Doug Stafford of Florida; sister, Verna Nichols of Arizona; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Deborah Stafford; grandson, Caleb Genson; two sons-in-law, James Tate and Jim Barnes; brother, William Stafford; and three sisters: Winona Dreese, Geneva Welling, and Nancy Bectel. According to his wishes, private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to Tri-Cities Kids League will be appreciated.
