Richard R. "Dick" Strang Sr.'s Obituary
Richard R. “Dick” Strang Sr., age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 18, 1936, to Raymond and Letha (Miller) Strang in Cedar Springs, MI. Dick was a dedicated employee of Teledyne, where he worked as a supervisor for 52 years before retiring in 2005. On November 10, 1966, he married the love of his life, Priscilla M. “Sil” Halderson, in Muskegon. Together they shared 59 wonderful years filled with love and laughter until her passing on April 17, 2025. Dick was a man of strong faith, and longtime and faithful member of Evanston Avenue Church. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and competed in numerous leagues at North Way Lanes. He also had a lifelong passion for playing softball and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. Above all, Dick treasured time spent with his family, who brought him his greatest joy. He is survived by his four children, Debra Beets, Richard Strang Jr., Steven (Deb) Strang and Carol (Joe) Tucker; two stepchildren, Sherry (Jeanne) Bates and Dave (Janet) Bates; numerous grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harold Strang, Arnold (Molly) Strang and Dave (Glenda) Strang; half-sister, Lynn (Frank) Belke; sister-in-law, Shirley Strang; and many dear friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Sil Strang; stepson, Rick Bates; brother, Ronald Strang; little sister, Erma Strang; sister-in-law, Sandy Strang; and son-in-law, Phill Beets. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 29, 2025, at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442. A Visitation with the family will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions in his honor can be directed to Evanston Avenue Church or Hospice of Michigan.
