Richard "Dick" Van Opynen's Obituary
Mr. Richard “Dick” Van Opynen, age 81, of Spring Lake passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at home. He was born October 21, 1937 in Grand Haven to Herman and Margaret (Tallman) Van Opynen. On April 17, 2010 he married the former Jacquelyn Reenders Robinson and she preceded him in death on December 3, 2011.
Dick served his country in the US Navy retiring in 1974 as Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28, Fleet Reserve Association, and Air Traffic Control Association Life Member. He enjoyed model trains and gardening. Dick was a member of First Congregational Church in Fruitport.
He is survived by two brothers, Robert (Kathy) Van Opynen of Coopersville, and Roger (Linda) Van Opynen of Grand Haven; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Yukiko Van Opynen, Son, Richard Scott Van Opynen, and his twin brother Allen Van Opynen.
A memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM January 11, 2019 at First Congregational Church (3212 E. Pontaluna Rd. Fruitport, MI). Memorial contributions in memory of Dick may be given to Grand Haven Christian School. Interment will take place in Spring Lake Township Cemetery.
