Richard A. "Dick" Buitendorp's Obituary
Mr. Richard Alan “Dick” Buitendorp, age 76, passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, September 23, 2011. He was born October 22, 1934 in Muskegon to Isaac and Edna (Cliff) Buitendorp, and lived most of his life here. Dick worked for the City of Muskegon for over 20 years. He served in the Air Force for 4 years and in the National Guard for many years. He was also very active with The Boy Scouts of America. He belonged to the American Legion. Dick is survived by his wife Sirrie; 4 children: Manuel (Isabelle) of Elkhart, IN, Byron (Debra) of Grand Haven, Dinice (Joey) Buitendorp-Paul of Canton, MI, Joseph (Catherine) of Whitehall; 4 step-children: Becky Buitendorp, Wesley Packer, Jennifer (Shaun) McNutt, Kristen (Benjamin) Parker; 10 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Ruth (Carl) Sipple of Farmington Hills, Norma Morton of Grand Rapids, Sam (Cheryl) Buitendorp of Horton Bay, MI, Marian (Roy) Comment of Goshen, IN; much loved nieces and nephews; former wife, Bea Acordagoitia of Muskegon; and numerous special friends. He was preceded in death by his father Isaac (1972), mother Edna (1993), two brothers, Roger (1932) and Colon (2011), infant daughter Evelyn (1973), granddaughter Ava Paul (2006), Dennis Scurlock and Bill Pickard, two very dear friends. A celebration of Dick’s life will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Holton, 9150 Holton Rd., You may sign the family’s on-line guest book at www.sytsemafh.com Contributions in memory of Dick may be made in lieu of flowers to Byron Buitendorp c/o the Muskegon Governmental Credit Union to cover any funeral expenses, and the remainder to the American Heart Association.
