Richard "Dick" Caughey's Obituary
Richard Caughey, age 77, passed away Monday morning, October 25, 2004, at a local nursing home. Dick was born in Muskegon on August 8, 1927, to Conrad and Lake Erie “Casey” (Evans) Caughey, and had spent his entire life in this area. After graduating from Muskegon Heights High School, Richard served his country in the U.S. Army. He had been employed as a machine operator for Sealed Power for 36 years, prior to his retirement in 1980. Dick married Barbara Mattson and later, Marie Karnitz. Marie passed away in September of 1985. Richard then married the former Jacqueline Siegel on May 16, 1987 in Muskegon. Dick was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, attended St. Mary of the Woods and then the Christian Community Center. He loved fishing, golfing, and enjoyed camping for many years. Mr. Caughey’s survivors include his wife, Jacqueline; 12 children, Christi (Charles) Broersma, Kelly (Ted) Morrell, Lori E. Caughey, Tracy (Mike) Damm, Scott Caughey, Jim (MaryAnn) Karnitz, Michael (Delores) Karnitz, Terry (Sue) Karnitz, Denny (Barb) Karnitz, Becky (Tom) Fredrickson, Jack (Patte) Gehrholz, and Susan Gehrholz; 27 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by 2 children, Douglas and Robert Gehrholz, 1 sister, Nancy Horner, and 3 brothers, Robert, Curtis, and William. A MEMORIAL MASS will be held Thursday, November 4, 11:00 A.M., at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 3252 Apple Ave., with Father Jack LaGoe as celebrant. Full Military Rites will be afforded by V.F.W. Muskegon County Council. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Muskegon/Oceana or the American Cancer Society.
