Richard "Dick" Strevey, Sr.'s Obituary
Richard “Dick” Strevey, Sr., age 88, of Grand Haven passed away Sunday, January 10, 2010, at a local hospital. He was born August 16, 1921, in Battle Creek to Alva L. and Hazel (Dailey) Strevey. He married the former Betty Gardner in 1942 and she preceded him in death in 1986.
Dick served his country in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. He was employed as a cabinet maker at Story & Clark for 40 years prior to his retirement.
On July 17, 2004, he married the former Joan Stevenson, and she survives him along with one daughter, Linda (Michael) McGrath of Indianapolis; one son, Richard (Vicki) Strevey, Jr. of Kaleva, MI; five step-children: Deb Niedzwiecki of Alabama, Pam Schwill of Kalamazoo, Sue Boodt of Mattawan, Jan Ault of Jackson, and Rodney Kappis of Plainwell; four grandchildren: Cynthia Trochu, Greg Hoff, Adam Strevey, and Sarah Strevey; two great-grandchildren: Claire and Jack Trochu; ten step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul (Janet) Strevy of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by three sisters: Nondas Beeney, Vivian Korb, and Maxine Scott; and two brothers: Al and Robert Strevy.
The service for Dick will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Mike Harrison officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Charles A.
