Richard "Dick" Earl Sweet, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Richard “Dick” Earl Sweet, Jr., age 82, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at his home surrounded by family. He was born March 1, 1927 in Fremont, MI to Richard Earl and Tressa (Harrington) Sweet. Dick worked for General Telephone & Electric Company for over 40 years and retired in 1986. Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served as a corporal in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Dick married Deloris “Pat” McAuley on June 16, 1949 and she preceded him in death on February 20, 2009. Dick was a life member of the National Rifle Association, an avid collector of anything military, enjoyed fishing and hunting, and had a love for animals of all species. He will be greatly missed. SURVIVORS include 2 sons, Neil R. Sweet, Ronald L. (Janice) Sweet; 1 daughter, Dena Marie Sweet, all of Muskegon; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Along with his wife, Pat, he was also preceded in death by his eldest son, Patrick W. (and Patrick’s wife, Valerie) Sweet. According to Dick’s wishes, there will be no viewing or service. Entombment will take place at Sunrise Memorial Garden’s Mausoleum. A wake in memory of Richard and Deloris Sweet will be announced at a later date.
