Richard E. Balcom, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Richard E. Balcom, Sr., age 78, passed away Friday afternoon following a long illness. He was born on December 30, 1931 in Muskegon to George and Bess (White) Balcom. Mr. Balcom was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was employed at Sealed Power Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1991. Richard was a life member of the Muskegon Elks Lodge #274, enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. On July 1, 1960, he married the former Joan L. White in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on April 25, 2009. Mr. Balcom is survived by: 3 children, Debra (Sean Edmond) Marsh of Muskegon, Victoria (Wayne MacPherson) Brown of Grand Rapids and Rick (Carlene) Balcom of Muskegon; 7 grandchildren, Jason Brown, Jillian Bulson, Holly Marsh, Thomas Brown, April Brown, Megan Balcom and Courtney Balcom; 4 great-grandchildren, Jalyn, Jadyn, Tyler and Reece; Sister, Nancy (Jerry) Eaton of Muskegon and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bruce and Don Balcom. The Funeral Service will be held at: The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. John H. Brown officiating. Visitation: Tuesday, 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. There will be a Lodge of Sorrow held at the funeral home, Tuesday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. Memorial Contributions: Alzheimer’s Association.
