Richard P. Benedict's Obituary
Richard Paul Benedict, age 65, of Grand Haven – a man who put God and family first, went to spend eternity in glory on Saturday, September 25, 2010, surrounded by his family, at home.
He was born to Homer W. and Christine E. A. (Dense) Benedict on January 15, 1945, and into eternal life by accepting Christ as his Savior in 1954. He was a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities and married Sheryl Hatfield on August 11, 1973. He graduated from Ferris State University with a BS in Accounting. He was a member of the Nortonville Gospel Chapel in Spring Lake. Richard was active both in the community and in the church.
Richard was an independent business owner with expertise in the management of and sales for the manufacturing sector. He formerly owned Grand Haven Screw Products and Benedict Sales before becoming a sales rep for US Horizon in Wyoming, MI, and then their GM for several years, after which he spent the next seven years prior to retirement following a childhood dream of becoming a truck driver expediting freight for CTX.
He will be missed deeply by his wife, Sheryl; two daughters, Richelle (DJ) Davis of Grand Haven and Renae (Chad) Kozik of Twin Lake, MI; one son, Ryan of Grand Haven; four grandchildren: Zachery and Madilyn Davis and Kendall and Caleb Kozik; a sister, Ruth (Jas) Stutesman of Grand Haven; brother-in-law, Bruce (Linda) Hatfield of Memphis, TN; sisters-in-law, Sally Roossien and Sindy (Douglas) Engel of Indianapolis, IN, and Jone (Greg) Gritzmaker of Ft. Wayne, IN; several nieces and nephews; and several special friends, including Paul Pell, Jim VanderWel, and Dave Ruiter.
The service for Richard will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Nortonville Gospel Chapel in Spring Lake with Rev. Dennis Snyder presiding. Friends may meet the family 6-8 PM Friday, October 1, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in honor of Richard may be given to Harbor Hospice or the Nortonville Gospel Chapel Music Fund.
