Rita A. Schurino's Obituary
Rita Ann Schurino, age 82, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on Monday, September 29, 2025. She was born in Muskegon to John and Elizabeth (Pego) Micko on January 30,1943. She was a proud member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians and a lifelong Muskegon resident. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1961 and was a longtime member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muskegon. She married Michael “Mickey” Schurino on April 29, 1967, and the two of them were inseparable and went on many adventures together until he preceded her in death in 2018.
Rita was very artistic; she enjoyed oil painting, painting plates, and writing poetry. She was a talented musician as well, playing the saxophone in her family band as well as various other bands over the years. She had a great sense of humor and always had a smile on her face. She was very independent and always liked things to be done in her particular way. She enjoyed going out for meals with friends and family, especially to G+L and Russ’.
Rita will be lovingly remembered by two sisters: Veronica Burrows and Mary Hammond; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Micko; husband, Michael Schurino; and seven siblings: Gerald (Rebecca) Micko, Cecil Micko, Phyllis (Donald) Riley, Violet (Robert) Peterson, Katherine Bevins, Margaret Rose, and Carol Duarte.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held for Rita at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444, with VISITATION taking place an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tanglewood Park Wellness Center for Senior Programming.
