Robert A. Fongers' Obituary
Robert A. “Bob” Fongers, age 81, passed away Friday morning, May 13, 2016 at his residence. He was born September 10, 1934 in Muskegon to Albert and Josephine (Medendorp) Fongers and had been a life resident of the area. Bob had been employed at Comerica Bank for 35 years; and then retired from Muskegon Loan Co. He was a member of Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church where he had served as Deacon and was formerly a member of the Muskegon Coin Club and of Kiwanis. He enjoyed his garden, but especially took wonderful care of his son, Mike, attending many local sporting events together. On July 1, 1954 he married the former Donna L. Rop and she survives him along with 5 children, Thom (Mary Beth) Fongers, Sue (Jim) Secord, Mary (Jim) Dobb, Mike Fongers and Scott (Lynn) Fongers; 11 grandchildren, Bryan Fongers, Andrea (Jeff) Wilkie, Kim (Mike) Krueger, Jenni (Eric) Timmer, Megan (Steve Lorenz) Secord, Matt Dobb, Jake Dobb, Luke Dobb, Leah Dobb, Kayleigh Fongers and Aaron Fongers; 7 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ethan and Hunter Krueger; Sophie, Eli and Cecilia Timmer and Skylar Wilkie; 1 sister, Connie Cottrell and by many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy, in 1956; sister, Vivian Brucker and his parents. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 695 Allen Ave.; Muskegon, MI 49442 with Pastor Ben Oliveira officiating. VISITATION with Bob’s family will be one-hour prior to the service at church. For a more lasting memorial, you are asked to consider Christian Care Nursing Center, 2053 S.
